Hello Jolenna,

You appear to have the right concepts for extracting DNA from cells!  As 
for household chemicals, the items that you mentionned in your question are 
pretty much the stuff that you would use.  

I did a short search on the Yahoo search engine using keywords "high school 
dna extraction" and found a number of sites that you may be interested in 
searching through.  I've listed three such sites below:
