In one word the answer is yes.
Fast heart rate also called tachy cardia in medical jargon, over prolonged
periods can lead to what we call cardiomyopathy. That is disease of the
heart muscle. This can lead to heart failure over a long period of time.
The heart rate ususally is faster than 120-130.
There is generally a reason for the heart rate to be that fast. First of
all diseases of the heart themselves can cause the fast heart rate. But
dieases of the thyroid gland as well as other glands including the adrenal
glands can also cause fast heart rate.
There fore if the heart rate is persistently high you should contact your
doctor.
