Alcohol acts in a similar way to volatile anaesthetic agents by being a central nervous system (CNS) suppressant. This invoves many mechanisms which can lead to the inhibition of calcium. Calcium (Ca) is a metalic element necessary for the normal development and function of the body, it is a constituent of bones and teeth.It is also the most abundant mineral in the body. Defficiency or indeed excess of serum calcium causes nerve and muscle dysfunction. So I guess the part that bones play in recovery from alcohol poisoning is pretty important since they would help to restore calcium inbalances.
