Hi Jessica-

I had a quick look on the web for instructions on incubating turtle eggs- there's not a lot of information, but I did find a good account of incubating Snapping Turtle eggs here. They give a good description of how they incubated their eggs, and it looks as though they were successful- they also make reference to a book that sounds like it might be useful: the " Practical Encyclopedia of Keeping and Breeding Tortoises and Freshwater Turtles", by Andy Highfield. That book is available at Amazon.com, though it's a little pricey (click here to see the listing).

There's a few other books listed that aren't quite as expensive:

  • Turtles and Tortoises : Everything About Selection, Care, Nutrition, Breeding, and Behavior (Complete Pet Owner's Manual) (cheap!) by Richard Bartlett, Patricia Bartlett and Michelle Earle-Bridges
  • The Complete Idiot's Guide to Turtles and Tortoises by Liz Palika
  • General Care and Maintenance of Popular Tortoises by Philippe De Vosjoli
  • I don't own stock in Amazon, and I'm not suggesting you need to buy from them- I'll bet you can find one of these books (or one like it) in your local bookstore or library- In fact, the Monroe Country library catalogue (which includes the Pittsford Community Library) is available on the web (here), and they have both the Bartlett and Palika books. They aren't at the Pittsford library, but I'm sure that if you ask a librarian, they'll be able to get them in for you.

    Good Luck!
