This link has a very easy to understand explaination of the basics in blood
types of dogs, cats, horses and more http://128.253.45.137/coags/bldtype.htm

Keep in mind that the "groups and types" of blood, are not the same across
species even though the letters used may be the same. Just as in humans,
animals can only recieve a matching group and type of blood in a
transfusion.
