many proteins are destroyed in the stomach by the acidic conditions and/or 
proteases.  must prions be stable in these environments or is there enough 
macromolecular absortion to allow sufficient transmission?  this is an 
interesting structural problem because the prions must have certain folding 
to induce pathogenic behavior and at the same time ensure 
transmission/protection.
