No. Tanning beds use wavelengths in the "near-ultraviolet" range. These don't get through your skin, so you can't be sterilized by them. They will do nasty things to your skin, though: enough exposure causes premature aging, drying, and even skin cancer. I can always tell a 40-year-old who's spent too much time in the sun or on a tanning bed; she looks 50. I saw a woman the other day who looked like she had scar tissue on her shoulders from, presumably, too much tanning... Dan Berger
