When garbage decays anaerobically (as in any enclosed space) the anaerobic
bacterial action produces, among other things, chelating agents like
lactate and oxalate, which enhance metal solubility considerably.
Therefore, the metal that you are considering would contribute to the
contamination around the disposal site. It would actually be better not to
line the mines. The contamination from the garbage itself can be controlled
more easily.
