I have looked up the word in dictonary to find what Chromosome means, but I don't really understand what it really is and how important it is.

It says that a Chromosome is a thread-like (what's a thread-like?) structure in the nucleus of eukaryotic (what's eukaryotic?) cells composed of DNA and protein. Chromosomes carry the genetic info. of the cell in their DNA, organized into linear arrengements of genes. It's kind of complicated for me to understand. Please explain it simpler, I would really appreciate it.
