Hi Nicole,
Yes, in a way, it does.  Because the earth spins on its axis, water currents in
the ocean, on a large scale, are affected by the earth's spin in the same way 
that moving things are affected by the spin of a merry-go-round.  Moving Ocean 
currents are nudged toward the right in the Northern Hemisphere and nudged to 
toward the left in the Southern Hemisphere.  This nudging of large-scale motion 
due to the rotation of the Earth is called the Corriolis Effect.
