Dear MAD,
I need to know if lack of sleep over an extended period of time can
cause an otherwise healthy young person to have unhealthy blood sugar
levels that might more resemble that of a more elderly person. I am
thinking of doing a science project on how lack of sleep can cause
teenagers to put their blood sugar in jeopardy....bad blood sugar (plus
factors like obesity) can cause diabetes later in life, correct? After
surveying my high school, I was planning on testing a group of teenagers
(mixed male and female) who get 8-10 hours of sleep a night (my control)
compared to a group of teens that gets 6-4 hours a night.
Thanks....I really need some of this info for my project!
