Basically my understanding from my machine design course (Juvinall) is that fatigue (endurance limit of the bolt) is used when sizing a bolt. Such concept has always been my understanding (either in tension, shear or both). I found a web page (www.avweb.com/articles/bogustor.html) that states that bolts are not affected by fatigue ?. My understanding so far has been that all machine components & joints are affected by fatigue. This includes bearings, gears, welds joints, bolts, etc. Thanks, EP
Re: Does fatigue apply to preloaded fasteners too ?
