Dear Michael,

When I was in elementary school I built a model of a human eye for my
science fair project too! I will try to describe how I made my model. The
most important thing about putting together a science fair project is to
really do research your project. So, I recommend going to the library and
getting a really good picture of the anatomy of the eye. You should be
able to find a good picture and description in any encyclopedia at your
local library.

For the eye, I would find a styrfoam ball that is a foot in circumference
(the width of the ball). You can also make on out of paper machie but its
not as sturdy as the styrfoam. You will need to cut out the middle so you
can insert the internal structures (have a grown up help with this because
its a bit tricky). I used a magnifying glass for the lens. You can use
different color pipe cleaners to stimulate the optic nerves that are
branching from the eye. To simulate the pupil, and other internal
structures you can either use construction paper or paint the structures
in your model. For the iris, you can use colored plastic wrap or
cellophane. You can find all these supplies in any craft store. Perhaps
you can ask your parents or teacher to help you find the materials.

I hope my suggestions help. Feel free to ask me anymore questions. Good
luck with your science project.

Have fun with science!
Elsa
