Jean, You must have some reason for picking this topic for your Science Fair Project. I would think this might have something to do with the fact that the bubbles in carbonated water are bubbles of carbon dioxide and carbon dioxide is necessary for photosynthesis to occur. You might expect that by increasing carbon dioxide levels, you might increase photosynthesis. The question is, how are you proposing to subject the plant to the carbonation; carbonated water? soda? If you are planning on using a carbonated beverage, you may be adding more than one variable, i.e. sugar, coloring, flavorings. You must also remember that carbonated beverages go "flat" very quickly as the carbon dioxide is lost to the environment. However, if the plant "captures" or fixes this carbon dioxide, photosynthesis may increase.
