Rest of question:

Why does a droplet of liquid slide off a taro plant leaf?

Reply:

Leaves have a cuticle or waxy layer on their epidermis. The cuticle minimizes
transpiration from the leaf. The cuticle is hydrophobic so water beads up and
rolls off just like water does on a freshly waxed car. In fact, some car wax,
carnauba wax, is obtained from leaves of the carnauba palm.
