Hi, Leanna.

To answer your question, we have to set some parameters. What is going into your salad? What will you eat with the hamburger patty?

A 3 oz (85 g) hamburger patty, by itself, has about 305 calories and 13 g of fat. Put that patty on a roll, add a slice of cheese and some ketchup and you will be eating 474 calories/19 g of fat.

You could have a salad that equals this hamburger in fat content if you add lots of dressing, cheese, croutons, etc. But your basic salad with 1 cup of lettuce, cucumber and tomato slices and 1 tbsp of dressing contains about 100 calories and 9 g of fat.

There can still be room in your healthy diet for the occassional hamburger; just try to eat some lower fat foods for your other meals that day.
