After reading that a bundle of nerves collect at point of amputation. I do not think this is accurate. I wondered if the phenomenon of phantom limbs is related to referred pain, where a pain in an internal organ can be felt in other parts of the body. Pain is referred to certain areas that enter the spinal column at same point. Could the sensation of phantom limbs also be caused by this? A particular point in the brain that was responsible for the limb lost be taken over by one still functioning?
