PPARs are transcription factors activated by the binding of a ligand. There are three know isoforms. The alpha isoform seems to be involved in the lipid cholesterol pathway, whereas gamma seems to be involved in the effects on diabetes. There is some new evidence that PPAR may play a role in colon cancer as well. The following is a review of recent findings concerning the physiological or normal role of PPAR: Nature 2000 May 25;405(6785):421-4 Roles of PPARs in health and disease. Kersten S, Desvergne B, Wahli W Institut de Biologie Animale, Universite de Lausanne, Switzerland. The difficulty you are having is due to the fact that not much is known about the PPARs.
