In the "Dune" series by Frank Herbert, the winds on the desert planet
Arrakis reach quite phenomenal speeds due to the powerful corriolis force,
as well as the huge open deserts. I was wondering if the various factors
that produce air-currents could become so strong as to propel air at
supersonic speeds?
