MadSci Network: Anatomy |
Phyllis Pugh, a former Mad Scientist who also actively researches on the effects of nicotine, researched this question - thanks Phyllis!. Nicotine administered directly drops skin temperature up to 2.3 C degrees. A reference for that is figure 4 of Jones et al available online at http://jpet.aspetjournals.org/cgi/content/full/288/1/188?ijkey=qlBgeWocxwqCU#F4 (see this image as a closeup: jpet.aspetjournals.org/content/vol288/issue1/images/large/pt0190032004.jpeg ) You could go look for what nicotine levels are associated with smoking; blood nicotine levels hover about 0.5 nM in heavy smokers.
