I have a 10 ft tape measure. The tape is graduated in feet. The top scale
is sub-divided into inches as normal, but the bottom scale is graduated
into slightly longer units than inches, giving 10 of these units to the
foot. These units are further sub-divided into tenths. The legend on the
tape says, "CAN 1943, HUNDREDTHS OF A FOOT". I can only guess that it was
produced for French Canadians building machines for the war effort. Am I
right? If so I wonder if that method of measurement was effective?
