I have read in Cold War submarine books, that nuclear subs had their own
almost infinite supply of air and water via their nuclear reactors. As
long as the reactor core lasted of course. Could this principal be used on
spaceships to give the astronauts an enormous amount of air, power and
water? When the reactor cores wore out, could the crew remove the old one,
replace it, and dump it near a sun where it would burn up
harmlessly.(Hopefully!)
