Dear Ken:

Greetings, fellow teacher! The two methods most often used for egg retrieval are laparoscopy and ultrasound-guided aspiration. The latter is more commonly used when there are no complications, and requires intravenous sedative and can be done in the specialist's office. The former is usd when there are problems like altered pelvic anatomy or obstructions to retrieval through the vagina, and it is a surgical procedure requiring general anaesthetic. A few sites which could give you more detail (and also some more about the rest of the in vitro fertilization process) would be:

http://www.fertilitext .org/p2_doctor/ivf.html
http://www.poetsrx.com/art/ivf.h tml
http://www.siumed.edu/ob/re-info.html

You could also do a search for 'laparoscopy' and 'ultrasound-guided aspiration' in your favorite search engine(s). However, I think that asking your local GP would be the best means of obtaining reliable information.

Good luck!
