Genetic screening can be used before couples marry to determine if they 
have similar recessive gene disorders that can pass on to their 
offspring.  Their genes are searched for specific sequences that can lead 
to genetic problems in their children.  If they are found then the couple 
is informed of possible complications that can happen during child 
development.
