I've seen these beautiful telling patterns in person and in general
metalurgical texts. High carbon steel sure throws a different spark than
mild steel when held against a grinder. In layman terms, can you describe
the branching, angles, length and color differences? Is there
a "taxonomy" for working backward from the pattern to the unknown metal?
