Hi Andy

Tendonitis is inflammation of a tendon (the bit of fibrous tissue that
joins a muscle to a bone). Repetitive contractions of the muscle cause
repetitive strains on the tendon, and if continued for a long time, will
result in inflammation (hence musicians tend to develop tendonitis in the
tendons which control finger movements, as do typists and computer
keyboard operators, and athletes in tendons which move arms or legs).

The simplest cure is rest until the inflammation has settled, and try and
avoid repetitive and prolonged movements. This may be impractical in
professionals, who may have to resort to a combination of strapping for
support, anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen, or even cortisone
injections into or around the tendons.

Best wishes

Doc C-P
