HI Adeline,

You have asked and interesting question and you are partially correct in
your thinking. The concern with canola oil, which was isolated from earlier
varieties, was the content of both erucic acid and glucosainolates (can
cause hypothyroidism & thyroid enlargemen). Today canola oil is the seocnd
most popular edible oil in world production. New varieties have been breed
to contain only small amounts of erucic acid and glucosainolates.
I hope this anwers your question.

Sincerely,

Al Bushway
Professor of Food Science
