I understand that lowering the temperature of the external environment will slow down the rate of breathing of an organism. However, i do not understand the relationship breathing rate has with temperature. I have searched your archives and found that temp. affects metabolic rate. But why does it affect metabolic rate in the sense that, metabolic rate slows down as the temp. gets lower. why does it do this and what link is there between breathing and metabolic rate?
