Subject: What effect does wing shape and placement have on an aircraft????

I have searched the internet alot on this subject and seem to find nothing.  All 
I ever get is how wings in general work or if I search a specific design like 
delta wing I only get examples of planes with that type of wing.

Can you explain how the different wings affect a planes flight in relation to 
such things as lift, drag and stability.  And discuss why some designes are more 
pratical then others for certain planes.
