Dear DJ;

what you suggest is a cheap version of inertial confinement fusion,
currently developed in several labs in Japan, France and the U.S. They try
to implode hydrogen pellets with powerful lasers, trying to reach
temperatures and densities sufficient to allow for fusion. Problem?... one
is power?... bigger and bigger lasers are required... the second one,
accuracy... the pellet must be hit from different directions at the same
time so to equilibrate all different momenta, and stay at the same
location. I would expect that the power problem is even more problematic in
what you suggest, and focusing the beams even more. SO I have not heard at
all any serious proposal regarding sono-luminiscence.

You can get more infro on inertial confinement visiting: http://www.llnl.gov
