Dear Ashley,

Yes, salt water can be made into drinkable water. People do it every
day. You can evaporate the water from a pan of salt water and catch the
steam. This would remove the salt. The temperatures involved, the
boiling water and the other dangers would require adult help.

The easiest way to distill water is to use a water distillation unit.
That includes a boiling vessel, a condenser hooked to it that changes
steam back into liquid water, a cooling water source to provide a heat
sink for the hot steam, and a collecting vessel to catch the distilled
water. If you have the glassware, this is a very easy process.

If you do not have this laboratory equipment, you could improvise.

A tea kettle could be partly filled with salt water and placed on a
stove. Boil the water until steam comes out of the spout. Fill a metal
container with ice water and put it into the steam. The water will
condense on the outside of the metal container and drip into a waiting
glass underneath. This is the easiest way to distill wate with limited
equipment.

You could read some information on desalination at the followig web site:

I hope this helps.
