Dana,

     There are lesser quality paints that will dry differently (cause the 
light to reflect differently and make the color look lighter or darker)if 
applied at different shear rates.  In other words, some paints will dry 
differently if rolled as opposed to brushed.  Typically, corners are 
brushed and the rest of the wall is rolled.  There are higher quality 
paints formulated to minimize this effect that will "level" or flow more 
smoothly irregardless of shear, and will dry to produce the same smooth, 
even coat.
