Hi Sara,

In fact, eggs CAN be fertilized by injecting sperm. There is a new
procedure called Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection, or ICSI, and it's now
used fairly routinely as a treatment for male infertility. If you would
like to learn more about ICSI, here are a few web sites which may be of
interest:

http://www.advancedfertility.com/icsiimag.htm
(this one has photographs of the injection procedure)

http://www.ihr.com/westcoast/articles/icsi.html
(this one has a summary description of the procedure)

http://www.inciid.org/icsi.html
(for a more detailed summary of the procedure)
