I recently noticed that when I fire an argon laser (about 10-20mW, 488nM single-
line blue-green) through a block of glass, you can see a very faint orange glow
in the path of the beam as it passes through the glass (viewed at right angles
to the beam path) - what causes this ? I've tried several pieces of glass from
different sources and they all behave the same.
