I love science experiments. I saw yours on madsci.org I was looking at the compass experiment you have and was wondering. How could you create a compass if lost in the woods, out of materials at hand? I know you would need a piece of metal, I usually carry a sewing kit with me when backpacking. A pool of water, and something for the needle to float on(a leaf should work). Now here is my question. How could you magnetize the needle without another magnet? What are some alternate methods to magnetizing needle?
