Ok, here's one example of an answer related to building cars using rubber bands

found in the MadSci archives using the search phrase

    rubber band

Your question seems to have more to do with protecting the egg. You might be
interested in how the human brain is protected - three layers, outer one is a
tougher material, next is a netting, and innermost is a softer layer. Best
simulants that come to mind would be a plastic bag for the outer layer, several
layers of an onion bag netting for the second layer, a layer of scrap bubble
wrap for the third layer. But, then, just about anything else might work
also. The idea is to mitigate shock.

References? I just read the web reference on the human brain, actually I found
it in the MadSci archives, yesterday but can't locate it today.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your question.
