Tanning in a greenhouse In general, glass does not transmit enough UV (ultraviolet) light to cause either sunburn or tanning.

However, because the amount of UV shielding depends on the thickness and type of glass, someone who is very UV sensitive should not assume that all glass will always provide enough shielding.
