MadSci Network: Genetics |
My son and his wife are expecting their first child. She is 21 years old, and she has Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease. Her father also has CMTD--his onset was at approximately 40--45 years of age. My son's wife, at 21, already has significant symptoms--drop foot, affected wrists, ankles, 'hunched back', etc. I realize (or I believe) there is a 50/50 chance of the baby inheriting CMT, however, I am wondering if the chances are greater or lesser with her being a daughter inheriting from her father, as opposed to if it were our son being the carrier? Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I could not find the answer to this specifically by searching your site. Thank you.
