Not quite sure I see the relevance to diffraction studies...

Anyway,  A good way to measure the track length is to measure the width of
the CD surface (r_outer - r_inner) and divide by the track spacing (1600
nm) to determine the total number of tracks. Now multiply this by the
average radius 1/2 * (r_outer + r_inner). 

A DVD works as an 1800 lines /mm grating.
