You ask a couple of questions. I will answer in a purely abstract manner. The easy one is the science one: how long does it take heroin to clear from the body. Heroin is eliminated rapidly from the body, and will be clear of the body in a matter of hours (12-24). (http://www.moravek.net/ovisnosti/annintmed-01.htm) However, you then run into some neuropharmacology. In an addict, the brain has become accustomed to the presence of heroin, and in its absence, you get a whole series of severe effects, known as withdrawal. This can last for days. Then you move into areas which are not well understood. People who are addicts may undertake various behaviours, which they may give up when they stop addiction. For example, some addicts may steal to finance their addiction. Whether they then give up that behaviour (stealing in this instance) depends on a number of factors- whether they are supported, have a job/ friends, etc. I have no special expertise in this area, and can say comparatively little. Hope this helps david bell
