MadSci Network: Genetics |
Hi Shalamar,
Judging from the data presented in a recent paper in the journal Nature, humans and whales appear to share about 80% of their DNA. However, this estimate is based on only 18 genes, and for various reasons these genes may not be representative of the genome as a whole. An accurate estimate of the percentage of DNA shared between humans and whales will have to await not only a complete human genome sequence but also a complete whale genome sequence.
