When newborns are growing, they spend about 90 % of their time sleeping, 10%
awake. The sleep is a necessary time for them to develop synaptic connections.
The question is: Do these stimuli come from inside the babies or from outside
them? If from the outside, then how can the brain grow with such little input?
(I.e. how does a child mentally digest what it does not yet understand?) If
from the inside, then where do these connections come from in the first place?

Are we pre-programmed somehow?

Thanks for your time,
