I think you are completely right. In Einstein's equations for gravity one the left hand side there is the curvature of space time and on the right hand side there the energy momentum tensor. So any kind of energy stored in a space-time region will contribute to the curvature of space-time, even thermal energy. If you heat up a brick, i.e. you encrease its energy content - somewhere else you loose energy, in the heater e.g. So the brick will effectively bend space-time more than it has done before, so it will gain weight.
