There are TONS of resources about fruit flies in the library and on the web.

The one thing I will add is since spontaneous generation does NOT work, make
sure there is no lid on the jar.

Here are some web sites to help you with your research:

Start Here! http://www.discovery.com/area/skinnyon/skinnyon970718/skinny1.html

and then go on to.... http://www.ceolas.org/VL/fly/
 http://www.exploratorium.edu/exhibits/mutant_flies/mutant_flies.html
 http://www.encyclopedia.com/articlesnew/04789.html
 http://www.ceolas.org/fly/intro.html

If you want to grow the fruit flies that come to your banana... http://www.sonic.net/~melissk/fruitfly.html

Good Luck

Greta
