Hi there,

I found a few good web sites that conatin information about the effects of eating cantharides or spanish fly or also known as blister beetle. I must admit most of the effects seemed quite dangerous, the active posion in the fly is cantharidin which is a powerful irritant and can be leathal at very low doses.

Have a look at this link for comprehensive details of the medical consequences of eating the flies.

Medical Information

Spanish fly has claims to be an aphrodisiac but this has been discovered to be untrue you can read all about the supposed effects at this second link.

Aphrodisiac Information

Anyway I hope the information helps,

David Barker
