Emily,

Interesting quetsion, but of course, there is no one answer. I have
participated in research cruises with marine biologists where we worked
together for months at a time in t-shirts, shorts and sandals most of the
time when we weren't wearing our wet suits to SCUBA dive. And, I've
worked with marine biologists who wear casual Hawaiin shirts to teach
their classes or conduct their research in their labs (with pants and
safety glasses when they work in the lab, and I've worked with marine
biologists who dress up pretty nicely to teach their classes and then don
lab coats to do their research.

I am actually a marine chemist - and you better believe my field
clothes look very different than anything I have ever seen the other
chemists in my department wear!

Have fun with your project.

jt
