Nothing would happen the large majority of the time. You would ultimately 
pass the staples in your bowel movement. In the rare instance where the 
staple would get 'hung up' in the bowel wall it would most likely do 
nothing. People are walking around with large numbers of staples in them 
from previous medical surgeries, many with staples in the GI tract. If you 
suspect that you have swallowed a metallic object, many times it can be 
seen with X-Ray. If the study is negative, you can at least put your mind 
at ease.
