I had to use displacement to determine the density and composition of a chunk of metal. It's mass was 158.5g and it's volume was 17.5cm3. I calculated it's density to be 9.1g/cm3. We were given the know densities of Iron (7.9), Lead (11.3) and Gold (19.3) and asked to compare our density to these known densities. We were asked what kind of metal the chunk is made of? I answered Iron since 9.1 was closest to 7.9. But I got it wrong. It's Lead and I don't understand why. Can you help me?
