Since you have left some trap doors I will structure this more precisely. 
In the sense that a human means a living sentient being - no, they can 
not. You need some form of transport medium. In us it is the 'RBC'. By 
function, I mean carry out the activities of daily living, repairing self, 
reproducing, fighting off disease, etc. There was a product which utilized 
chlorophyl. It was to replace or augment blood for transfusion. It was 
manufactured by Green Cross. The last I heard anything about this was in 
1983. So the potential for a 'synthetic gbc' exists. Chlorophyl being 
substituted for the hemoglobin. This would not be a living cell but an 
amalgamation of transport media.
