Hi,

Surprisingly, considerable research has
been done on this question. The answer is
YES!

A search on www.google turned up a large
number of references -
 http://www.google.com/search?q=neanderthal+strength&btnG=Google+Search

The scientific answer is that the average neanderthal was
probably 2 to 3 times stronger than the average human.

At a more entertaining level, the California Academy even built
a machine that allowed a human to arm wrestle a "neanderthal".
Nothing but losers!

There are even advocates for using the supposed neanderthal
diet to make humans stronger.

However, nothing will offset the physical advantage of the
neanderthal morpology. Obviously, these are generalities.
A weak neanderthal or a teenager could obviously be
overpowered by an NFL lineman.
